Aventerra and AllTrails
for the day the trail has no signal.
AllTrails is the biggest community of trailgoers, with reviews, photos and conditions on more than half a million hiking, biking and running trails. Aventerra is built for motorized riders and small groups who need to see each other where the signal ends.
Who it is for
AllTrails suits hikers, runners and cyclists who choose a trail by its reviews and photos, want turn-by-turn and wrong-turn alerts on a verified route, and like to share a live link with family.
Aventerra suits snowmobile, quad, dirt bike and 4x4 groups, and anyone who needs the whole party on one map, with slope, snow depth and hazard reports, where there is no signal.

Where AllTrails wins
- Community: AllTrails states more than 500,000 trails with reviews, photos and conditions from a community of trailgoers, and its Google Play listing shows over 50 million downloads. Aventerra is at the start.
- On the trail: turn-by-turn with audio cues, wrong-turn alerts after 50 m, on the phone and on the watch, offline on downloaded trails.
- Satellite without hardware: navigation, search and Live Share work over T-Mobile T-Satellite in the United States and Rogers Satellite in Canada.
- Planning depth: custom routes with smart routing, a route assistant for multi-day trips, printed maps, and routes sent to Garmin and COROS watches.
- Reach: 14 language options and a long list of supported countries.
Where Aventerra wins
- Built for motorized riders: snowmobile, quad, dirt bike, side-by-side and 4x4 are five of the ten activities, with Quebec networks from the MRNF, FCMQ and FQCQ and routing profiles for snowmobile, quad and dirt bike.
- The whole group on one map, two way, inside the app, over the internet or a mesh radio. Live Share is a one-way link that needs a data connection.
- SOS and end-to-end encrypted chat over the mesh when there is no network. AllTrails has no SOS.
- Slope angle, daily snow depth and eight weather layers with a time scrubber, free.
- Hazard reports with severity, voting, expiry and reporter trust, instead of reviews.
- One offline region with its routing pack is free. AllTrails offline maps need Plus.
Frequently asked
Is Aventerra a replacement for AllTrails on a hike?
Not for finding a hike. AllTrails has far more hiking trails, reviews and photos. Aventerra records hikes, routes on foot where the routing graph is published, and shines once your group leaves the signal. Many people will carry both.
How is Live Share different from Aventerra's group location?
Live Share sends one link that your contacts open in a browser to follow you, one way, while you have a data or supported satellite connection. Aventerra puts every member of the group on one map inside the app, two way, over the internet or a mesh radio, with an out-of-range alert.
Can I bring my AllTrails routes into Aventerra?
Aventerra imports GPX and KML files into tracks, routes and waypoints. AllTrails' help centre has an article on downloading files from AllTrails. Aventerra also exports GPX, so your recordings can go the other way.
