Community Guidelines
Last updated: October 6, 2026
1. Who these guidelines apply to
These guidelines cover everything you contribute in the Aventerra app: posts, comments, reactions, photos attached to trails and places, hazard and condition reports, and your public profile. They apply the moment you post, whether you are sharing with the community or with a group.
You must be at least 16 years old to use Aventerra, including to post, comment, react, or add photos. You confirm your age when you create your account, and you accept these guidelines the first time you contribute.
These guidelines sit alongside our Terms of Service, which govern your use of the service as a whole.
2. What we expect
Aventerra is a tool people use to make decisions in avalanche terrain. That raises the bar for what gets posted here.
- Be accurate. Report what you actually observed, where and when you observed it. If you are unsure, say so.
- Be respectful. Disagree with the assessment, not the person.
- Post your own photos and recordings, or content you have the right to share.
- Keep it relevant: conditions, terrain, routes, gear, and trip reporting.
- Respect the people in your photos and the privacy of the places you share.
3. What is not allowed
The following will be removed, and repeat violations cost you access to community features:
- Harassment or bullying, including targeting someone across multiple posts or comments.
- Hate speech, or attacks on people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
- Nudity or sexual content. Any sexual content involving minors is removed immediately, the account is terminated, and the matter is reported to the appropriate authorities.
- Violence or credible threats against anyone.
- Dangerous misinformation, including falsified conditions and hazard reports.
- Privacy violations: posting someone else's personal information, or photos of people in a private setting without their consent.
- Impersonating another person, organization, or an avalanche centre or other official forecaster.
- Spam, scams, and repetitive promotional posting.
4. Conditions and hazard reports
A fabricated hazard report can put someone in an avalanche path. We treat deliberately false conditions and hazard reports as one of the most serious violations of these guidelines, not as a prank.
Community reports are observations, not forecasts. Post what you saw, from where you saw it, and let other people weigh it themselves. Do not present a guess as an observation, and never post an official-sounding forecast or danger rating as if it came from an avalanche centre.
Always check the official forecast from your regional avalanche centre. Nothing posted by another user in Aventerra replaces it.
5. Reporting and blocking
Every post, comment, photo, and profile can be reported from inside the app. Choose the reason that fits best and add any detail that helps us understand the situation. Reports are confidential: the person you report is not told who reported them.
You can also block another user. Blocking stops them from contacting you and removes their content from your view, independently of any moderation decision.
If you believe someone is in immediate danger, contact emergency services first. Do not wait on a report to us.
6. How reports are handled
We review the open report queue at least once a day, and act on egregious reports as soon as we see them. Content that draws multiple independent reports may be hidden automatically while it waits for review.
Content is either visible, hidden pending review, or removed. While content of yours is hidden or removed, you can still see it in your own contributions marked as under review, so you always know what happened to it.
7. Consequences
Depending on what was posted and whether it has happened before, we may remove the content, restrict your access to community features, or terminate the account. Content that is unlawful, or that endangers people, can lead to removal on a first offence.
8. Appeals
If we hide or remove something of yours and you think we got it wrong, you can appeal it from your contributions in the app. One appeal per item: tell us why it should be restored, and we will look at it again.
9. Changes and contact
We may update these guidelines as the community grows. Changes are posted on this page with an updated revision date.
